BOOKS GALORE

By Randal Rust

I got some new books for Christmas! Don't know when I'll have time to read all of them, but I'll get through them eventually.

  • "The Silmarillion" by JRR Tolkien
  • "To America: Personal Reflections of a Historian" by Stephen Ambrose
  • "Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper - Case Closed" by Patricia Cornwell
  • "Bringing Up Boys" by Dr. James Dobson

Michelle got me the first three. I'm reading Tolkien first. The book is basically the early mythology of Middle-Earth, beginning with a creation myth.

The Cornwell book was a suprise. But it looks very interesting. I've always been fascinated by the Ripper case. After I read this I'm sure I'll get around to reading "From Hell" by Alan Moore. And maybe I'll post a Jack the Ripper story that I wrote in high school.

The Dobson book is really cool, and was from my Mom. I read the first five or six pages or so, and it's right on the money. The book is about how to raise a boy to be a man, from a Christian perspecitve. I hope that it encourages playing in the mud.
