Rumor has it that the Reds can get Brad Penny from the Marlins as part of a three-way swap with the Expos. The big fish (no pun intended) in the trade, is Bartolo Colon, who would go South to Miami.
I don't like this trade at all. The Reds would have to give up Luke Hudson and Ty Howington. Both are minor league pitchers, but Hudson throws flat out gas and Howington is supposedly one of the crown jewels.
Although he's young, Penny has an injury history that worries me. And the Reds have already had to deal with one screwed up ex-Marlin in Ryan Dempster.
The Reds keep worrying about their starting pitching. I say put seven guys in the bullpen that can throw serious heat, get Junior and Casey healthy and go with it.
Spring Training is less than five weeks away, I can smell the fresh-cut grass already.
